Easter in San Antonio

April 5, 2015 – Happy (much belated) Easter!  We spent some time trying to find a church to attend, and finally settled on a Vineyard church plant.  The church met in a little building near a park, where we were slightly confused to see people camping and smoking BBQ.  Later we learned this is an Easter weekend tradition, where the local parks relax the “no camping” rules for the weekend and people bring their tents, smokers, grills, and camp out for the weekend.

We had a great time out on the trail.

After Easter service we drove back to Houston to catch the flight back to Boston.  We took a short river walk down by the missions, and then get on the road.  This is when we discovered Buc-ee’s.  We’ve been seeing billboards for Buc-ee’s for awhile now…. the Beaver, the gas station experience… and figured why not, let’s stop for lunch.  Let’s just say that Buc-ee’s is an experience.  Lots going on, and decent BBQ sandwiches (and really great brown sugar coated pecans).

This is the less-populated part of the Riverwalk.

We got dinner at the airport at the local Pappadeaux.  We tried fried alligator (delicious), fried crawfish (good, but not as good as the alligator), and crawfish stew (very good).
